SUMMARY

Callie’s New Friends is about a rescued Calico Cat who has been with her adopted family for a year. She meets Simba, a miniature apricot poodle (given to her human mom, by a neighbor friend for her birthday). Simba and Callie become friends and spend all the time they can together. One day, Simba goes outside and is hit by a car. Jay, one the sons in the family takes him to the veterinary clinic where her works to see if anything can be done to help him. When Jay comes home with nothing but Simba’s collar, Callie mourns him. She lies down on top of the collar and grieves. When they ask, Mom tells the family that Callie is showing love and caring by mourning for her friend.

Later in the story, a new friend comes to the family, Smokey, a new rescued cat. Callie does not like him much, but she tolerates him. In the next Adventures of Callie – Smokey Makes His Mark, Callie begins to learn more about Smokey and finally accepts him.

NOTES

Parents should read this with their children and be prepared to discuss death and grieving.
