SUMMARY

Consider the state of an urban Black male youth in America. For most, it is a revolving door of doom – a life defined by disparity, crime and few opportunities for social advancement. On a mission to save America’s Black male youth from a life of hopelessness, Richard Fitts believes the problem lies not in the deterioration of morals but rather in intergenerational trauma. Offering a historical perspective to address the legacy of trauma within the Black community, Fitts shares insights to help parents of troubled Black male youth understand the psychological aggression and economic deprivation that affect far too many young Black males in American society.


Drawing from his own experiences as a parent to a troubled teenage son as well as the work of prominent psychologists and psychoanalysts dealing with the collective unconscious, Fitts tackles the topics of integrity, punishment, respecting authority, and failing in school to help parents give their own sons a fighting chance. Fitts’ conscious commitment to improving the prosperity and confidence of Black male youth through preparation and prevention is a rallying cry for social advancement and racial justice.
